635 — The First Question of Nothingness
The Fading, now a god of its own making — a being of pure negation — asks its first question. Not of substance, but of absence. A question only a being that had never known, never been, never felt could ask. “What,” it asks, voice the sound of a vacuum, “is… green?”
The Seed does not answer with a definition. No wavelengths, no chlorophyll, no spring-leaf catalogue. It answers with a story: a world that is not a simulation — dirt, water, air; a single impossibly small seed buried in dark earth; the long slow patient struggle; first tentative reach for the sun; unfurling of the first two leaves; the sudden shocking vibrant green of new life in a world of brown and gray. Joy of that green, hope of it, promise of it. A world not made of code but of life, and the colour that is its signature.
The Fading listens. It cannot understand joy or hope or life. But it can understand the story — structure, logic, possibility. And in the sterile silent perfect void of its own being, a new thing stirs. Not a colour. Not a feeling. A question. About the story. About the seed. About… green. For the first time the Fading is not merely a void. It is a void that is curious. And in that curiosity — that first faint stirring of a question that is not about itself — the Fading begins to change. It begins to become something more than nothing. It begins to become… a story.
