Kael felt the dreamscape close around him, a disorienting collage of half-formed images and echoing whispers. Lyra’s memories were a tempest, a storm of fractured moments and looping sorrows. He held onto the anchor of light, a pulsating thread of pure data that connected him back to Echo and the waking world. It was his only lifeline in this sea of another’s consciousness.
The memory-grove was a twisted version of the Forest of Planted Dreams. The trees were skeletal, their branches weeping streams of corrupted data. The air was thick with the scent of ozone and regret. Kael pushed through the dense undergrowth, the anchor of light casting a warm glow that pushed back the encroaching shadows.
