After Ch4513 opened the heresy arc with the potter who feels clay instead of measuring it, Ch4514 stages the trial. The Council convenes in special session — not a new “First Council” (that remains Ch2353) — inside the central workshop. Sela is not charged with a named crime but with refusing the world as they defined it.
The Council’s case is the Standard itself: charts, models, scalable bridges, organized harvests. Her methods, they say, are selfish artistry — beautiful, unscalable, a return to subjectivity.
Sela answers with a demonstration. One unadorned pot on the workbench. “What is this for?” They answer volume, weight, structural integrity. She replies:
It is for carrying water. But it is also for the coolness of the clay on a hot day, for the balance in the hand, for the beauty of a simple curve. Your Standard measures its body, but it cannot measure its spirit. And a world without spirit, a world of pure measurement, is a world that is not fit to live in.
Continuity held: Sela (not Elara); Council in special session (not First Council); no First Schism claim. Streak 399. Echoes count advances with the chapter desk.
