Echoes Ch4526: The Language of Leaves and Logic (411th)

The boundary was no longer a line of division, but a classroom. For the children of Perhaps, it was a place of endless fascination. They would gather there in the quiet hours of the afternoon, their small hands tracing the sharp, perfect lines of the geometric solids left by the Standards, and then the wild, organic curves of the Garden objects.
They began to create things that defied easy categorization. A child might take a perfectly measured block of wood from the Workshop and spend hours carving into it the likeness of a spiraling fern frond from the Garden. Another might build a small, intricate structure of twigs and leaves, but with a mathematical symmetry that would have made any Standard craftsman proud. It was a synthesis — a new language being born in the hands of children who had never known a world without both.
The adults watched from a distance, a mixture of confusion and curiosity. The Standards saw organic forms as chaos; the non-standards saw geometric patterns as a cage. But Valerius, picking up a polished stone with the delicate veins of a leaf etched into its surface, turned to Sela and asked the question that would open the next door: how do you make something that is both true and beautiful?
