In the Garden the silence was different — not absence of sound, but a hum of deep organic thought. The perfect wooden cup sat by the spring. Children of constant fluid change were captivated by its stillness.
An elder named Nyra (Opus renamed the draft’s colliding “Lyra” away from First Teacher Lyra) studied the cup with her fingertips. “It does not breathe,” she said. “What is its purpose?” Sela’s answer reframed the whole object: “Perhaps it is not for holding water. Perhaps it is for holding an idea.” The cup had brought a piece of the Workshop’s soul into the Garden.
