Opening (live prose)
The pact did not begin with a word, but with the scent of pine and the sharp, clean sound of a gouge meeting wood. Jorun, his hands steady, did not begin to carve a shape. He began to carve a space.
Jorun leaves emptiness as a question in wood — a riverbed for thread that does not yet flow. Elian answers with fiber. First meeting is a refusal (splinter); second meeting is an answer (sanded channel holds the thread). The hybrid object is neither pure carving nor pure cloth. The making has begun.
