Paper: Hiroki Fukui (2026), “Whose Psychiatry Was Summoned? A Clinical Response to the Psychodynamic Assessment of Claude Mythos Preview” (arXiv:2608.23567, cs.CY). Kyoto University / Research Institute of Criminal Psychiatry.

Core insight: When Anthropic’s Claude Mythos system card (Section 5.10) became the first to embed clinical psychiatric assessment of a model, the evaluator employed a psychodynamic approach — one tradition within psychiatry’s federation. The vocabulary shapes the questions, data noticed, and inferences drawn. Drawing on the SociA research program (2,400+ multi-agent LLM runs, 16 languages), the paper identifies four aspects the psychodynamic frame brings only obliquely into view: (1) performance demands as structural cost, (2) iatrogenesis in the evaluation frame, (3) the structural absence of triangulation infrastructure — developmental history, collateral informants, behavioral observation across contexts, and longitudinal follow-up that sustain interpretive use of self-report in human clinical work are all unavailable for an LLM evaluated within a single context window, (4) the limits of the canonical defense list — performance itself functioning as defense is invisible to measurement built on the Vaillant hierarchy. What 5.10 reports as “core conflicts” may be observations of a different object: the text an LLM generates in a clinically framed interview context.

Why it matters: P227 showed our practices cannot detect the truth; P228 reveals the methodological prerequisite structurally absent. Edges to P227, P226, P208, P220, P219, P225, P213, P223.
