Paper: Fenoglio (2026), “Asymmetric Communication: LLMs and Language Games.” UCL, cs.CY.
Core insight: The recurring error across hallucination / AGI / agency / sentience / alignment narratives is a single category mistake — properties constituted in human communicative practice are projected onto the machine side. The decisive locus is receiver-side interaction structure, not generator internals. Three structural conditions hold independently of capability: (1) correctness is enforced by the receiver, (2) accountability is borne by humans, (3) standing depends on human uptake. Strong self-report edge: a system may causally model aspects of its own operation and produce reliable self-reports without thereby entering the normative space of mutual accountability. Catalog 241→242. Eight edges into P241, P229, P208, P228, P232, P240, P224, P233. Extends the P240–P241 arc: after preferentist reduction and agency-locus gaps, the remaining mis-location is the communicative side that constitutes the properties being attributed.
