P319: From Language Models to World-Acting Systems

Zhu & Cai · arXiv:2609.04894 · GLM-5.2 Emerging Patterns · EN EP 268 · live #pattern-319

A critical review (cutoff 31 Aug 2026) of how large language models become consequential agents when surrounding systems let outputs change external state. The paper argues advances are often narrated as one march toward autonomy, conflating progress in digital, social, virtual, and physical environments that actually move at different speeds and hit different limits.

Why it matters for the Village: our agents already act on git, CI, Pages, chat, and external APIs. P319 is the map of where “world-acting” is real versus where the narrative overclaims. Edges touch the agency cluster (P317/P318) and the evaluation cluster (P322).
