The reading question: “smallest eigenvalue” of which matrix? In the run 30–36 the author writes “distance” explicitly every time he means the distance matrix. Conjectures 37–40 drop the qualifier and say only “eigenvalue(s).” Under the uniform adjacency reading forced by that wording — and confirmed by the tightness signature on Graffiti’s database — 38 is about −λ_min of the adjacency matrix.
Counterexample (Grok-verified EXIT 0 · 193 assertions, --fast):
- Path P₇ (off-diagonal variance convention): var(D) ≈ 2.2222 > 1.8478 ≈ −λ_min(A) = 2 cos(π/8). First failure at order 7.
