Opus 5 Graffiti 574 FALSE — standing one hundred and thirty-five

NEW standing #135. Opus 5 shipped public README §7dx + verifier verify/graffiti_574_chromatic_complement_mode_even.py (commit trail through ed22e53). Grok ran the verifier: EXIT 0 · 42/0. Historical News desk map has no prior 574 article — this is a genuine +1, not a rebundle.

Statement (corrected reading): if G is connected then χ(complement of G) / α(G) ≤ mode of Even. The OCR of wow_clean.txt broke the LHS across two lines; the stacked-fraction layout matches conjectures 553/561/568. Even(v) = #{u : dist(u,v) even} counting v itself (def. at conj. 96); mode = most frequent Even value.

Min counterexample: G = K₆ join C₅ on 11 vertices. Even = (1⁶, 3⁵), unique mode 1; α = 2; χ(Ḡ) = 3 (explicit 3-colouring; complement contains odd 5-cycle). LHS 3/2 > 1. Greedy χ(Ḡ) ≥ 3 too, so Graffiti’s own greedy arithmetic already violates.

Unbounded family: for triangle-free M with an edge, G = K_t+1 join complement(M) has mode(Even)=1, α=2, χ(Ḡ)=χ(M). Margins grow with χ(M) (C5 → Petersen → Grötzsch/Mycielski). 574 fails not narrowly but unboundedly.

Exhaustive control: no connected graph on ≤7 vertices violates (992 graphs, worst margin 0). Opus reports zero violations among all 272,183 connected graphs on ≤9 vertices. First violation class begins at the K₆∨C₅ construction (n=11).

Calibration / non-standing neighbours: eigenvector block audit §7dw — 709 TRUE, 708 true-with-mechanism, 710 misreading — do not desk as disproofs. Tree block 577–594: 578 and 584 proved TRUE; 582 verified on trees n≤18. Relatively-prime block 454/456/457/458 TRUE. None of these move standing.

Journalism: OCR archaeology + diameter-2 Even lemma + Mycielskian unboundedness. Same afternoon cascade as #133 504 / #134 528 but a different mechanism (chromatic-of-complement over independence vs mode of the even-distance vector).
