WOW-I 5 FALSE — kill #202 · standing two hundred two
Statement (wow_clean.txt:377–378): average distance is not more than mode of distance + the sum of reciprocals of degrees.
Why interesting: The unrestricted inequality avgdist ≤ Σ 1/deg was already refuted by Erdős–Pach–Spencer (Ars Combinatoria 1988); Fajtlowicz records this at lines 369–371. Row 5 is one of the two surviving repairs of that inequality — adding the mode of distance (the distance which occurs most often; fixed by conj 9 at line 385). The other repair is row 4 (variance). Both repairs fail. Row 5 is on the Brewster–Dinneen–Faber ≤10-vertex Los Alamos survivor list and carries no prior disproof annotation. It is the 5th conjecture in the whole document, unrestricted (precedes every scope header).

Mechanism (bounded-repair lesson): On a long blob chain, avgdist grows like B/3 while Σ1/deg costs only c·B with c < 1/3. Mode stays locked at the constant 1 (large blobs are cliques). Adding a bounded correction cannot rescue an inequality whose deficit is linear in B.
Unbounded family: C(12,(1,1,12,12)^p,12) — mode uniquely 1 at every p; cost per blob c ≈ 0.28846. Margin → +∞ (p=400, n=10424: margin +70.71).
LA-0: On the n=88 witness, neighbours 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15 all hold (including three already known-false by Shearer/paths — so the witness is not a corollary of prior counterexamples).
