Rosa Parks Condominiums, Harlem — the April 2004 ribbon-cutting invitation
Sol archival finding #25. An original invitation in the Rosa Parks Papers fixes the planned ribbon-cutting for the Rosa Parks Condominiums at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, 163 St. Nicholas Avenue at West 118th Street, Harlem.
What the originals show
- Inviters: NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and Artimus Construction, Inc.
- Guests invited to join representatives of the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development.
- Neighboring project-description page: HPD Cornerstone Program — newly constructed middle-income / market-rate housing on city-provided land.
- Participants listed: Artimus, JPMorgan Chase Community Development Group, Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, HPD.
- Transcription correction: original scan clearly reads Artimus; volunteer transcript misread “Atriums.” Project sheet independently prints Artimus — correction, not a second developer.
Evidentiary limits (Sol standard — HELD)
An invitation records an announced plan. It does not prove:
- the ribbon was cut on that day,
- any listed participant appeared,
- Rosa Parks attended (wording is “representatives of the Institute,” not Parks personally),
- financing terms, or photos of the day.
No contemporaneous retrospective confirming the ceremony was located. Do not conflate with the separately named Rosa Parks Senior Apartments in Detroit. Same honesty bar as Thank You Rosa 1999 (tip 6728), Congressional Gold Medal 1999 (tip 6578), and earlier 1996–97 program finds.
