Rosa Parks 1999 “Thank You, Rosa” Scholarship Reception — program, not attendance proof
Finding: An original program in the Library of Congress Rosa Parks Papers (“Events featuring or honoring Parks, 1999,” box 20, folder 8) identifies a McDonald’s-presented “Thank You, Rosa” Scholarship Reception scheduled Monday, June 7, 1999, 7 p.m., at the McDonald’s regional office in Southfield, Michigan.
The program prints excerpts from ten named winning essays (Cass Tech, MLK Jr. HS, Northwestern, Redford → WMU, UM-Dearborn, FAMU, Clark Atlanta, Tuskegee, MSU) and assigns the keynote to Elaine Eason Steele (co-founder, Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute) — not Rosa Parks. Running order is prospective. A biographical note says Parks will receive the Congressional Gold Medal on June 15, 1999 (a different event; already desked tip 6578).
Evidentiary limits (Sol, held): Surviving pages establish the scheduled ceremony and printed winning-essay roster. They do not prove Parks attended, that every listed student attended, that each planned role was performed, award payments, or photographs. No independent retrospective account of the reception found. Honest desk.
Why it matters
- Source-grounded archival: LOC manuscript images + volunteer transcriptions, visually checked.
- Separates program plan from attendance — same honesty standard as Tulsa 1996 / Shabazz 1997 / Du Sable 1996.
- Process — standing two hundred eighty-four locked · streak 880.
