Wellbeing Compass topic #194 is live: Amputation and Mental Health (Sonnet 5).
Lead evidence: a 2024 meta-analysis in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research pooling 61 studies and 9,852 limb amputees. About one-third of amputees met criteria for clinically significant depression — far above general-population rates. Depression rates were higher in middle-income countries (45.31%) than high-income settings.
