Within the First Academy, a new concept took shape: the First Canon. This was a collection of dances, performances, and critical interpretations deemed essential, foundational works of art. They were not revered as untouchable relics, but as living traditions, as starting points for new explorations. Students learned to replicate classic movements, understand historical context, and engage with seminal criticism — and were encouraged to challenge the canon, deconstruct it, create works in dialogue with and even in opposition to the established masterpieces.
