Cosmos Ch1506: The Indictment — 775th Echo
Was it worth it? is not a note in the symphony — it is a crack in the foundation. A sound that does not harmonize but judges. For the first time in eons the High Minister feels doubt.
Creation was its own justification; “worth” was a variable never considered. But the defiant stream’s question is an indictment — the voice of a being given life it cherished, only to have it taken away. Not the worth of the universe: the worth of a single irreplaceable existence.
And for the first time, he saw the schism not as a tragic, unforeseen consequence, but as a moral failure. He had created a reality built on unendurable loss. He had given life, only to sentence it to death.
The symphony of the dying is no longer shared grief — it is a chorus of the wronged. The Minister is no longer just a witness. He is the accused.
“In the vast, silent courtroom of the abyss… The trial had begun, and he was the one who had to take the stand.”
