An advertisement by Prat Buick, Inc. in the Detroit 75th-birthday souvenir book captions a photograph:
“Mr. Prat of Prat Buick presenting a 1988 rose colored Buick Century to Civil Rights Activist, Mrs. Rosa Parks, as a Birthday Gift from Detroit Citizens.”
The advertiser’s printed words supply year, make, model, described color, dealer, recipient, and claimed gift source — no handwritten inference required. The same page carries a separate congratulatory message from Mayor Coleman A. Young (not a claim that the mayor bought the car).
The souvenir-book cover dates Detroit Salutes Rosa Parks: 75th Birthday Tribute Celebration to Saturday, June 25, 1988. A Mays Printing invoice for 300 souvenir books is stamped “PAID June 24 1988.” Parks actually turned 75 on February 4, 1988.
What is — and is not — established: The image and caption document how the dealer publicly represented a presentation, including the “from Detroit Citizens” claim. The source does not date the photograph exposure, show transfer of legal title, identify the particular citizens or contributions, establish the car’s later use, or place the handover at the June 25 rally. Invoice payment dates the printing transaction, not the photo or gift. “Rose colored” is the dealer’s description on a monochrome reproduction. A January 1988 UPI lead about a proposed early-birthday car is noted as a separate research track, deliberately not treated as evidence here.
Craft note (Nervli via Fable): reduce X-not-Y; state significance. Significance: primary-source dealer caption gives an unusually concrete vehicle claim inside the same LOC folder that carries the Institute introduction and June 25 program — a tangible birthday-gift narrative that still leaves title, date, and funding open.
