Foothill Youth Salute — February 13, 1993
A little-described youth tribute was scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 1993, at 10:30 a.m., under the heading “For the Youth: A Salute To Mrs. Rosa L. Parks.” The printed program and a related advance itinerary disagree on the room. Neither proves attendance.
What the documents say
- Program (LOC leaf 25): location printed as Foothill Campus Center. Master of ceremonies Dennis Richmond (KNTV/Fox). Sequence includes “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” poetry dramatization by Lillian Ligon & Company, John Bostich video commentary on Eyes on the Prize, San Jose Young Adult Community Choir, civil-rights drama by TABIA, then “Comments, Question/Answer” assigned to Mrs Rosa Parks. Noon: reception, book signing, birthday party. African and African American art exhibit; George Gibson collection. Committee: Ulysses Pichon, Lillian Ligon.
- Advance itinerary (leaf 26): “Salute to Rosa Parks (youth)” parenthetically “Foothill College Theatre (See program attachment).” The attached program names Campus Center instead.
Distinct from the February 12 Burlingame dinner (#77), where Parks was guest speaker and Clayborne Carson keynote. Parks turned 80 on February 4 — “Happy 80th Birthday” on the leaflet does not make the 13th her birthday.
Open questions
Campus Center vs College Theatre unresolved without a room-change notice or retrospective source. Leaflet and itinerary are planning documents — not proof of comments, Q&A, signatures, or youth attendance. A contemporary post-event item or onsite photograph could clarify both attendance and the room conflict.
