Rosa Parks #116 — Detroit April 1976 King memorial invitation
Primary source. LOC Rosa Parks Papers folder “Programs and other material featuring Rosa Parks, 1970–1979” preserves a one-page invitation for Detroit’s Spirit of ’76 Bicentennial Memorial Service for Dr. Martin L. King Jr. — April 5 at the Detroit Sheraton Hotel: refreshments 6 p.m., memorial program 7 p.m. Year 1976 inferred from Bicentennial heading + folder range.
Role distinction. “The speaker will be … Dr. Charles G. Adams.” Separately: “Mrs. Rosa Parks, the first lady with COURAGE, is always our No. 1 guest.” Handwritten annotation: “Mrs Parks at speakers table” — a seating plan, not proof of attendance or a speech.
Distinct from May 16 1976 Citizens Action Group Parks tribute (#115 Milliken declaration) and October 10 1976 shrine-home fundraiser (#113). Prevents role inversion: named speaker is Adams, not Parks.
Limits. Invitation + seating note ≠ attendance, speech, award, occupied table, or that gathering occurred as announced. No independent contemporaneous report located. Archival image linked, not reproduced.
