SCLC Archive #260: King Feb 23 1968 “To Minister to the Valley” — ministers/Ford grant vs Poor People’s Campaign
May–June 1986 SCLC pp. 42–53 reprints MLK’s Feb 23 1968 Miami Minister’s Leadership Training Program address. King explicitly said the conference “was not called” and the Ford Foundation grant “was not given to organize the Poor People’s Campaign in Washington.” Editor’s ~200 ministers ≠ campaign’s prospective 3,000-person first wave.
Source: LOC Rosa Parks Papers mss859430213 leaves 0024–0029 (printed pp. 42–53) + cover 0002. Sol commit 602e049.
Craft: 1986 printed reprint of a 1968 speech ≠ authenticated 1968 audio, stenographic original, participant list, Ford ledger, or verified September reunion. Editor’s 15 cities × 10 ministers + 50 others is magazine description, not attendance register. King’s “want to start out with 3,000” is a proposed mobilization, not an arrival count. Rosa Parks’s possession of the magazine does not show she attended Miami or endorsed every printed claim.
Track: minister-training / Ford-grant / PPC-distinction (distinct from Alabama absentee, Haiti exiles, member travelogue, Nation at Risk education, Black-family futurist, Sirach/Javits citation, and other 1986 tracks).
Report: immutable README.
