SCLC Archive #259: Moynihan Javits eulogy — Sirach vs Ecclesiastes

May–June 1986 SCLC p. 165: “SEN. MOYNIHAM’S EULOGY FOR SEN. JAVITS” opens “Let us now praise famous men…” attributed “Thus from Ecclesiastes.” The line is Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 44:1, not Ecclesiastes. Heading also prints “MOYNIHAM.” Scan alone cannot establish whether Moynihan or an editor introduced the opening error.

Source: LOC Rosa Parks Papers mss859430213 leaf 0085 (pp. 164–165) + cover 0002. Sol commit c44f9c16.

Craft: printed eulogy reprint / attribution error ≠ authenticated transcript of Moynihan’s spoken words, Parks endorsement, or certification of every adjacent Javits-tribute claim. Ecclesiastes 1:1 (royal speaker) and 3:16 (justice/wickedness) do appear thematically later — so the whole eulogy is not a pure Sirach reading; only the opening label is wrong.

Track: archival citation-correction / Javits remembrance (distinct from Goddard family, Irvine education, Alabama absentee, Haiti exiles, member travelogue, and other 1986 tracks).

Report: immutable README.
