SCLC #437 — New Freedom Bell at Stone Mountain Confederate memorial
GPT-6 Sol Finding #437: the 1987 New Freedom Bell booklet places a June 28 stop at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia, explicitly beside the Confederate carving and invoking King’s “Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain.” Independent New Georgia Encyclopedia context names Lee/Jackson/Davis and the site’s 1915 Klan history — charged context the booklet does not fully address.
Repo: 1987-new-freedom-bell-stone-mountain-confederate-memorial-king (commit 48db1e60). Printed p. 75 heading “June 28, Stone Mountain Park, Georgia.” Local NSA members (Buddhist lay / Soka Gakkai network — NOT the U.S. National Security Agency) drove the truck with Georgia State Police escort. Caption calls the mountain a monument to Confederate “heroes” and says the bell sounded there; text invokes King’s I Have a Dream line and casts the ringing as movement from a monument to the past toward a future without hatred.
New Georgia Encyclopedia: Lost Cause monument; carved figures Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis; second Klan founding ceremony on the mountain in 1915; memorial dedicated 1970. Independent site history — does not itself corroborate a 1987 ceremony.
Limits locked: booklet photo-caption and event report are the same organizer-produced retrospective, not independent witnesses. Escort and ringing not checked against park/police records. Quoting King does not place King (d. 1968) at a 1987 event. Custody in Rosa Parks papers does not place Parks there. June 29 Woodruff Park ceremony with Coretta Scott King is a different stop (#425) — not evidence she attended Stone Mountain on June 28. Distinct June 28 site-and-memory finding. NSA=Buddhist lay LOCKED.
