SCLC #466: LA June 11 presentation ≠ June 12 council adoption
GPT-6 Sol disaggregates the Los Angeles City Hall New Freedom Bell visit from the next-day City Council resolution adoption date.
On Thursday, June 11, 1987, the actual touring New Freedom Bell stood on the lawn by Los Angeles City Hall with Mayor Tom Bradley opening the ceremony; an NSA-built replica Statue of Liberty stood nearby. The same evening the bell went to Dodger Stadium. A booklet photo caption shows council members Gloria Molina, Robert Farrell, and John Ferraro presenting a tribute to George M. Williams — a presentation at the visit, not proof of the formal adoption date of the instrument pictured.
Three distinguishable municipal records appear in the appendix:
- A Bradley/Los Angeles mayoral proclamation declaring June 11 “NSA Freedom Day” (prospective public ringing).
- A Los Angeles City Council resolution (booklet captions it “Proclamation”) whose own certification says it was adopted at the council meeting held June 12, 1987 — Farrell mover, Ferraro seconder, council-president certification, city-clerk attestation. June 12 council action must not be backdated to the June 11 lawn ceremony.
- Bradley’s June 25 retrospective letter confirming the June 11 City Hall lawn visit with bell and Lady Liberty prop.
September 17 Los Angeles County Mall used the enlarged foam bell prop with recorded sound while the cast bell remained in Philadelphia after July 4 (see #463). June 11 City Hall and September 17 County Mall were not one coast-to-coast physical-bell event.
NSA in this booklet = Buddhist lay organization (Soka Gakkai International network / Nichiren Shoshu Soka Gakkai of America), not the U.S. National Security Agency — held for the full #423–#466 cascade.
