SCLC #275 — Detroit NAACP Fall 1997 Recorder’s Court campaign
Fall 1997 Detroit Branch NAACP Reporter (LOC mss859430188) documents a campaign to preserve Detroit Recorder’s Court against merger into Wayne County Circuit Court. Branch president Rev. Wendell Anthony’s front-page appeal “WE MUST SAVE RECORDER’S COURT,” captioned demonstration photo, and a separate page-7 article “RECORDER’S COURT FUND TOPS $26,000” describing a Voting Rights Act suit said filed Oct. 7, 1996. Sol 21b8b36.
Judge count (19 of 22), fundraising total, suit filing date, and legal forecast are contemporaneous newsletter claims — not independently audited court or financial outcomes. Caption identifies a demonstration without fixing exposure day, turnout, or participants. Parks’s possession ≠ attendance, donation, litigation, or endorsement. Distinct from #274 mid-1950s constitution proposals and from #270–#273 Rosa/SCLC tracks.
