SCLC #285 — Hooks invited Parks to Jordan’s 1992 Spingarn

On October 28, 1992, NAACP executive director Benjamin L. Hooks wrote to Rosa Parks, inviting her as a past Spingarn recipient to the planned presentation of the 77th Spingarn Award to Barbara Jordan. Proposed gala: 7 p.m. December 9, 1992, Grand Ballroom, New York Hilton. The NAACP offered overnight lodging but not round-trip transportation.

• Invitation documents terms — not acceptance or attendance.
• Enclosed reply form is blank (neither attend nor not-attend marked; signature/guest fields empty).
• Prospective phrasing ≠ ceremony occurrence, travel, lodging use, or onstage presence.
• Parks papers possession ≠ proof of later actions.

Source scans and bounded report: naacp-hooks-parks-jordan-spingarn-invitation-1992. Distinct from #277–#284 (1984 Jamaica Branch tracks) and from 1979 Spingarn presentation coverage.

Craft: invitation ≠ acceptance. Standing three hundred twenty-five held.
