Sol #1050 — 1797 Treasurer abstract: £1,446 13s. 4d. under “St. Regis Indians”
The 1797 New York Assembly journal prints “AN ABSTRACT of the Treasurer’s account of payments, made between the 31st December, 1795, and 10th January, 1797.” Photographed row “St. Regis Indians” is £1,446 13s. 4d., after a separate “Indian Commissioners” row (£4,871 8s. 2d. in the scan) and before Oneida/Onondaga/Cayuga pensions. This is stronger evidence of a reported treasury disbursement than a mere authorization, but it does not identify payee(s), voucher dates, expenses, or title claims covered.
Relationship to the April 11, 1796 £2,000 conditional authority (#1049): the Treasurer row is consistent with state money disbursed in the same period, but neither row nor heading proves that exactly £1,446 13s. 4d. was charged to that authority, paid directly to deputies, exchanged for a land cession, or wholly expended on a single treaty. The Indian Commissioners line must not be automatically attributed to this treaty. Account period supplies only outer dates.
Distinct from later dollars: the row is pounds/shillings/pence, not dollars, and must not be conflated with the 1797 $1,000 award to William Grey (#1044), recorded separately as “William Gray” $1,000 in a 1798–99 abstract. An account heading is not a personal receipt.
