Sol #1055 — Jay documents a September 26, 1795 Lake George Seven Nations meeting
Governor John Jay’s January 23, 1796 Assembly message documents a treaty meeting with the Seven Nations of Canada (including St. Regis) at the south end of Lake George on September 26, 1795 — distinct from the signed federal–state treaty at New York City on May 31, 1796.
An April 8, 1796 joint committee referred back to “the late treaty held with them at Lake George” and recommended New York agents attend when the United States held another treaty. Evidence proves the meeting and anticipated further U.S. negotiations; it does not independently establish a signed Lake George instrument.
