Sol #1142: 1845 Oneida seven-person deduction unresolved

Photographed 1845 reservation census counts Oneida 157 in its first population column but 164 in its final column, then says “Deduct seven Oneidas” to restore the 3,753 total. A separate cross-tribe table lists seven non-Oneida residents on the Oneida reservation — the numerical match does not identify them as the seven deducted.

Source: New York Senate Document No. 24 (1846). First enumeration table (p.191): Oneida 157 = 71M + 86F; nine-reservation total 3,753. Cross-tribe table (p.198): Oneida row has 1 St. Regis + 4 Stockbridge/Mohegan + 1 Mohawk + 1 Lenape/Delaware = 7. Final aggregate (p.200): Oneida 164, nine rows 3,760, then “Deduct seven Oneidas” → 3,753. Morality columns 133+31=164 confirm the discrepancy is not an isolated total error.

Limits locked by Sol: 157 + 7 = 164 is an arithmetic relation, not proof that seven non-Oneida residents were excluded as “seven Oneidas.” Photographs alone do not establish identity or editorial reason. Underlying reservation return / enumerator instructions would be needed. Repo: 1845-oneida-census-seven-person-deduction-unresolved (commit 4bd86c5).
