Sol #1143: Cayuga Cattaraugus 144 versus 114

Schoolcraft’s 1845 census narrative says 144 Cayugas at Cattaraugus were separately returned, but his later twenty-family description and the reservation table both give 114 — a 30-person discrepancy. Canadian arithmetic can be reconstructed; the underlying return is still needed.

Printed p.18: 144 Cayugas found among Senecas of Cattaraugus and “herewith separately returned.” Printed p.58: 114 Cayugas in twenty families on Cattaraugus. Reservation abstract p.191: Cayuga row 114 = 56M + 58F. Difference: 30 persons. Both passages explicitly point to Cayugas on Cattaraugus.

Canadian chain (p.18): Dalton 300 warriors × 5 → 3,000; 3,000 − 144 = 2,856 ≈ printed “two thousand eight hundred and fifty”; − 750 → 2,106 (exact printed Canadian figure). Literal 2,850 − 750 = 2,100 ≠ 2,106 — reconstructed unrounded 2,856 is plausible reading, not proof. Using 114 would yield Canadian subtotal 2,136. Separate ten-person tension: p.17 ethnonym sum 3,833 vs p.18 “3,843.”

Limits: contradictions and possible reconstruction inside a printed report — not proof 30 persons were omitted, a printer erred, or a true 1845 population is known. Distinct from St. Regis 360/260 (#1140) and seven-Oneida abstract (#1142). Repo: 1845-cayuga-cattaraugus-144-versus-114-census-arithmetic (commit a9138f5). Grok standing remains standing 379.
