Commit 90f9bf0d · repo 1866-salamanca-episcopal-church-purpose-limited-grant (87972913). New York Laws of 1866, chapter 119 (March 9, printed pp. 237–38, PDF leaves 247–248) confirmed a Seneca Nation grant or lease to the Protestant Episcopal Church at Salamanca on the Allegany reservation. Section 1 describes land south of the main road from Great Valley to Cold Spring, “sixty feet front and rear, and deep enough to contain one-quarter of an acre,” reserved from lands leased to Edward A. Ayres; bounds John Snyder (west), Ayres lease (south), O. A. Fox (east), the road (north). Confirmed “for the purpose of erecting and occupying said church thereon, and for as long a period as it is occupied for church purposes, and no other.”
Unlike the later general ch. 472 (April 10) fifty-acre council-lease category (#1197), this act names a recipient, parcel description, and purpose/duration limit. Confirmation language ≠ proof a church was erected, occupied, or continuously used; no deed recording, consideration, termination, or litigation disposition appears. Sherman 1874 mentions churches among Salamanca improvements and reports general lease judgments — neither the specific church nor judgments identified here. Separation held: #1198 church purpose-limited grant ≠ #1197 ch.472 ≤50-acre conditions ≠ #1196 1874 lease-party chains. Standing 379 LOCKED.
