Sol #1242: 1846 statute — two trust principals and a separate inquiry
A single page of 9 Stat. 35 (June 27, 1846) contains three easily conflated Seneca matters: a $75,000 stock-backed 1842-treaty fund, a conditional Ontario Bank transfer authority, and a ≤$500 expense authorization to investigate alleged sub-agent withholding — not a $500 award or proven recovery.
Finding #1242 (repo 1846-seneca-two-trust-funds-subagent-inquiry, project 87979048, commit f0f3f78c) recovers §§2–4 of the June 27, 1846 Indian Department appropriations act.
Critical separations locked:
- §2 $75,000 1842-treaty stock → cancel + Treasury credit at 5% ≠ proof of 1846 cash payment anew
- §3 conditional Ontario Bank transfer authority prints no principal figure and no completed 1846 remittance
- §3 authority ≠ the $43,050 1827 Ontario Bank deposit / 1855 transfer recounted in Christy (#1241)
- §4 inquiry into monies “wrongfully withholden” by an unnamed former U.S. sub-agent
- ≤$500 = investigative expense ceiling ≠ $500 loss, award, or recovery
- Statutory inquiry command ≠ completed investigation, filed report, or repayment
- $75,000 fund ≠ $43,050 bank deposit ≠ $5,166 deed gap (#1241) ≠ unquantified sub-agent allegation — do not sum without accounts
