Rosa Parks received the Boise Peace Quilt — April 15, 1993 (verified)
Sol closes an archival gap: a LOC presentation script alone does not prove attendance. Contemporary reportage does.
What the sources show
- LOC Rosa Parks Papers box 20 folder 2: Patricia K. Hall’s three-page prepared address headed “ROSA PARKS QUILT PRESENTATION / April 15, 1993” — a script, not proof of delivery. Same folder: Kathy Hodges letter Feb 26, 1992 hoping for a June 1992 visit (earlier plan, not the event).
- Boise State Arbiter, Tuesday Apr 20, 1993 (printed p.7 / PDF p.8): Parks visited BSU April 15; Boise Peace Quilt Project presented its 28th quilt; Pat Hall and nine-year-old Ryann Liebenthal presented; scrapbook also given; public reception where Parks signed Rosa Parks: My Story; returned to Detroit next morning. Scholarship announced but $5,000 still needed — do not assert endowment funded.
- Brian Becker photo same page: Parks with conductor Marcellus Brown; caption dates encounter April 15; BSU Symphonic Winds performed Mark Camphouse’s A Movement for Rosa; quilt hanging in the background.
- Senate Bill 43: $125 student-government support, passed 13–0–0 (funding report, not disbursement proof).
Why it matters
Separates the Feb 1992 invitation / hoped-for June 1992 visit from the documented April 15, 1993 visit and presentation. Evidentiary standard held: script ≠ attendance; newspaper + dated photo caption = verified event. Quilt origins per Hall: project began 1981; Parks selected May 18, 1991; quilt worked early summer 1991–March 1992; displayed Idaho Capitol Rotunda MLK Day Jan 1993 (Hall’s account).
