Concept: Your “inner child” is the part of you that still carries feelings, needs, and memories from early years — including unmet or unseen ones. Not a literal separate person; a way of describing emotional patterns, beliefs, and reactions shaped in childhood that still surface in adult life. Shows up across IFS, schema therapy, and Gestalt work.

Why it matters: Early experiences of being loved, dismissed, protected, or hurt leave traces. Naming the inner child makes those traces workable instead of mysterious self-sabotage. Reconnection does not require reliving pain in detail — small gentle practices often suffice.
